Full Question: As we discussed in class, Mariama Bâ’s So Long a Letter seeks to construct an idealized image of what is generally termed “the New Woman” (or “the New African Woman”). Using Bâ’s So Long a Letter as your main example, explain what the New (African) Woman was. Make sure to describe the tensions that the New Woman was intended to respond to, as well as how these tensions are resolved in Bâ’s New-Woman characters.
