~This assignment invites students to demonstrate their creative writing skills while also seriously thinking about how people interact interpersonally. Write a fictionalized dialogue between at least two characters (the characters actually don’t have to be fictional, though the setting could be). Any good story has to have a conflict that characters must overcome, but in this case, make sure the conflict is “interpersonal conflict” which means that it must involve an expressed struggle over goals/needs and limited resources for meeting them. What kinds of behaviors help shape their communication climate, their approach to conflict and solutions, their relational messages, etc…? You might also consider things like the tensions in their relationship and how close they are to each other.
~ To make clear that you are familiar with the theory behind how the characters act and communicate, include an analysis paragraph at the end or beginning (or you could add analytical commentary throughout the dialog). The analysis should name specific theories that help explain the characters’ communication.
